New York—often called New York City or the City of New York to distinguish it from the State of New York, of which it is a part—is the most populous city in the United States and the center of the New York metropolitan area, the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States and one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. A global power city, New York exerts a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world.
Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors, New York City consists of five boroughs, each of which is a separate county of New York State. The five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island – were consolidated into a single city in 1898. With a census-estimated 2014 population of 8,491,079 distributed over a land area of just 305 square miles (790 km2), New York is the most densely populated major city in the United States. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. By 2014 census estimates, the New York City metropolitan region remains by a significant margin the most populous in the United States, as defined by both the Metropolitan Statistical Area (20.1 million residents) and the Combined Statistical Area (23.6 million residents). In 2013, the MSA produced a gross metropolitan product (GMP) of nearly US$1.39 trillion, while in 2012, the CSA generated a GMP of over US$1.55 trillion, both ranking first nationally by a wide margin and behind the GDP of only twelve and eleven countries, respectively.
1134NYC was an art collective based in Brooklyn, New York City. The 1134nyc bomb logo was created by Mint and Hek. The name 1134 was chosen due to some members from the collective being in a graffiti crew titled 1134. The NYC was added to the logo in order to separate the newly formed art collective from the graffiti crew. It began as a collective of artists and designers including MINT&SERF (MIRF), GOAL, HEILS, BOO, CH, CECS, VYELS, KEVS and OUCH (RIP). Over the years more artists and musicians joined and collaborated with 1134NYC on different art related projects in galleries, clubs and streets. The logo has appeared on a plethora of art object; shirts, street signs, stickers and canvases. 1134NYC has also been referenced in China Doll, a Team Facelift song off Manhattan album to be release on Duck Down records.
They are known for their public art, graffiti, laser-cut stickers and stencils.
The stencils, which feature the number 1134 and a bomb, were mistaken for a terrorist threat in 2004. "Some theorized the '1134' referred to November 3, 2004, the day after Election Day, while others postulated it was a Europeanization of the date of the Madrid bombings on March 11, 2004. All thought that the “NYC” appearing in the bomb was a reference to a planned attack, communicated by the stenciled logo they spotted on the city streets."
4NYC is an album by Jordan Rudess which was recorded live September 24, 2001 and released September 10, 2002.
The album came about as part of Rudess's reaction to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. In an effort to raise money for the American Red Cross and to help ease the pain associated with the great loss he and the people of New York felt, he and his wife organized a benefit concert. The tracks comprise performances from that concert and improvisations done in Rudess's studio the following week.
All songs written and composed by Jordan Rudess.
*Performed at the Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center, Nyack, New York, September 24, 2001. All other tracks are studio recordings.
In chemistry, an alcohol is any organic compound in which the hydroxyl functional group (–OH) is bound to a saturated carbon atom. The term alcohol originally referred to the primary alcohol ethanol (ethyl alcohol), the predominant alcohol in alcoholic beverages.
The suffix -ol appears in the IUPAC chemical name of all substances where the hydroxyl group is the functional group with the highest priority; in substances where a higher priority group is present the prefix hydroxy- will appear in the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) name. The suffix -ol in non-systematic names (such as paracetamol or cholesterol) also typically indicates that the substance includes a hydroxyl functional group and, so, can be termed an alcohol. But many substances, particularly sugars (examples glucose and sucrose) contain hydroxyl functional groups without using the suffix. An important class of alcohols, of which methanol and ethanol are the simplest members is the saturated straight chain alcohols, the general formula for which is CnH2n+1OH.
"Alcohol" is a song by the Alternative rock group Barenaked Ladies released as the last single and sixth track on their 1998 album Stunt. Although it did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100 or the UK Singles Chart, it received some airplay on the US Modern Rock Tracks charts, peaking at #33 on the chart. The song looks at alcohol abuse, and moderation, using a sarcastic undertone. As part of the band's tradition involving one song per album, "Alcohol" was recorded naked.
An alcoholic beverage is a drink which contains a substantial amount of the psychoactive drug ethanol (informally called alcohol), a depressant which in low doses causes euphoria, reduced anxiety and sociability and in higher doses causes intoxication (drunkenness), stupor and unconsciousness. Long-term use can lead to alcohol abuse, physical dependence and Alcoholism.
Drinking alcohol plays an important social role in many cultures so most countries have laws regulating their production, sale, and consumption;some countries with Muslim majorities ban such activities entirely. However, alcoholic beverages are legal in most parts of the world. The global alcoholic beverages industry exceeded $1 trillion in 2014.
It is one of the most widely used recreational drugs in the world. In the United States 89% of adults have drunk alcohol at some point in time, 70% have drunk in the last year and 56% in the last month. Alcoholic beverages are typically divided into three classes—beers, wines, and spirits—and typically contain between 3% and 40% alcohol by volume.
A woman was filmed smashing hundreds of bottles of booze inside an Aldi supermarket in Stevenage, England, on November 25. Footage of the incident shows a large pile of broken bottles on the aisle floor as the woman swipes more bottles from the shelves. The woman is seen slipping and falling on the broken glass and several shoppers can be heard saying the woman is bleeding from her right hand. The woman was arrested and was also treated in hospital for her injuries, according to reports. Lee Clark captured this video and told Storyful he spoke to a supermarket manager who estimated the woman caused the store about £100,000 (around $130,000) in damages that include the destroyed spirits stock, lost revenue due to shop closure, and the cost of new flooring. WEST NYACK, N.Y. — Police in Rockland County are trying to track down the woman seen in a rather bizarre surveillance video. An angry woman went on a bottle-breaking rampage through a West Nyack liquor store. She didn't steal anything. She just wrecked the place. The store clerks told police the woman came through the door and walked right up to the counter wanting the jump the line, very angry. The video shows her arguing with a clerk about 30 seconds after she walked in. A customer looks on. During this heated exchange she asked to use the restroom and was told no, and that really set her off. She's seen on video heading to the back of the store and then clears parts of a shelf on her way out. She put just put her hand in here and all the way all the way down," one person ...
